That said, I should really not partypoop the Tomo Appreciation Thread with criticism of how Tomo has been written. But it's been done, so too late now.
Hello! That's right, I've read your comment. I'll address the short one first. I actually just agree with this. Your comments and this might just end up getting deleted since they're not really in the spirit of the topic but I figured I'd give a shot at a response first.

And I would argue Raya is not "that cute" so much as she has actual personality to help her looks (her design is great).
In the comics you can see Raya
screaming "brother" while giving a tackle hug,
then wagging his tail, before she realizes she was wrong twice,
and that's just the beginning of his character. Now I could link on and on, but that is not necessary to see Raya's radiant, enthusiastic character. Nor is it necessary to list all that Raya did.
Just see for yourself.
Compare this to Tomo,
who though he,
and yes I know he's mute,
reacts to stuff,
he does not do anything except
wandering around,
hiding behind family and trying to look cute. Tomo's most notable actions are:
breathing onto the phone screen,
getting lost in the woods and
eating an apple. You know what kind of person also does these things? A toddler. Save for the
more measured emotional responses. Safe to say, she shows little personality, though still some.
In this comparison I hope you see my point. Anyway, ClefDeSoll, if you're reading this, please put Tomo in a situation such that she does something only 2% of normal people would also do in her place. That tip is called "the two percent trick" or "the two percent rule of characterization", which in the cases of
Yokoka, Yfa and
Raya has been masterfully done in Yokoka's Quest.
Now, for your criticism of Tomo's character.
I don't want to go too much into details of my "plans" for his character, so we're going to stick to what's in the comic itself because that's what's fair. Tomo is a disabled character with intellectual and physical disabilities. Did you know people like this exist in real life? He lacks vocal chords which make him mute, he's shy so he hides and watches from a distance. And the point is, his family loves him anyway and include him in what they're doing.
He's not a mascot. He's a side character. An incredibly minor one at that. I'm not sure why he's frustrated you this much, when you can just ignore him. The people in this thread love him, and don't see him in the incredibly reductive ableist view you have of him.
I'm not sure if you were trying to provoke me or are genuine. But there you go.
PS. It's completely fine if you don't like Tomo, and if that was it I would have left your comments alone. You don't have to understand everything in the story. I write things subtly, some people will catch on and others don't and that's okay. But you've projected things I am simply not doing and assigned them to me, which does bother me a bit.
